WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- In 2011, Nationals second basemen Danny Espinosa almost made the all-star game. In 2012, his own team has removed him for their online all-star campaign.

Per a tweet from Nats blogger @Section138, Steve Lombardozzi's picture has replaced Espinosa's on the Nationals official website.

This season Espinosa is batting .213 with 5 home runs and 12 RBI's in 169 at-bats. Lombardozzi is batting .313 with 0 home runs and 7 RBI's in 99 at-bats.

Washington manager Davey Johnson has finally started to play the utility man Lombardozzi regularly. The Maryland native has played in six of the last seven Nationals games.

Besides being benched, is there a bigger slap in the face as a player? Essentially, he was benched within the rabid Nationals online fan base. Espinosa isn't much of a talker to the press, so I'm sure he won't make an issue of this.

I wonder if Mike Rizzo had his hands in this? It's pretty telling that the Nationals brass isn't pleased with his results this season. Once Michael Morse returns to his spot in left field, Espinosa may be the odd man out.
