WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Per Washington Post beat reporter Adam Kilgore (follow him if you are not), Bryce Harper has earned an affectionate new nickname from his Washington teammates:
The name was apparently coined by shortstop Ian Desmond, one of the more vocal Nats with the media. Of course last night Harper received ten stitches in his eye after shattering a bat in between the dugout and locker room following his 0-for-5 performance, the worst game of his pro career. A piece of the bat deflected off the wall, ricocheting right above Harper's eye.
Bam-Bam is okay for now, I just hope the moniker doesn't stick. It doesn't quite have the ring of Willie Mays' 'Say Hey Kid,' or Reggie Jackson's 'Mr. October,' or even the 'Iron Man' Cal Ripken.
While we wait for Harper's true nickname, check out this amazing list on wikipedia.
