HYATTSVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- 9SPORTS NOW's Dave Owens has confirmed that DeMatha High School football coach Bill McGregor is quitting.

Rumors have swirled for some time about McGregor leaving the school.

Monday afternoon, Dematha's athletic director, Tom Ponton, told 9SPORTS NOW that the coach is stepping down and will meet with players later in the afternoon.

McGregor has helmed the Stags for the last 29 years, going 280-39-3.

McGregor is leaving DeMatha after a tough 42-3 loss to rival Good Counsel in last season's Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title game.

We'll have more on this story as we receive information.
