RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Voters in two districts will chose state senators in special elections on Jan. 12.

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine on Monday set the date to fill Sen. Kenneth Stolle's 8th District seat and Sen. Ken Cuccinelli's 37th District seat. Earlier this month Stolle was elected sheriff of Virginia Beach and Cuccinelli was chosen as attorney general.

The 37th District includes part of Fairfax County. The 8th District includes part of Virginia Beach.

The deadline for candidates to file to run is Dec. 11.

Kaine said having the special election Jan. 12 gives voters time to meet the candidates and still be represented in the winter session, which begins the next day.
