LARGO, Md. (WUSA) -- Some residents in a Largo apartment building got a rude awakening this morning when a out of control minivan slammed into the structure early Thursday morning.
Prince George's County Police say the vehicle hit the building on Harry S. Truman Drive near Campus Way South around 1:00 a.m, damaging two units. Police say the building had to be evacuated and Washington Gas was called to the scene to repair gas meters that were damaged in the accident.
Washington Gas officials say all of the residents except for the occupants of three units were allowed back in the building. The displaced residents have been put up in a hotel and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Police say the man behind the wheel of the minivan was not drunk at the time of the accident.
The incident is under investigation.
