WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA/AP) -- Two firefighters suffered minor steam burns while fighting a two-alarm fire in Northeast Washington on Saturday afternoon.

A 27-year-old man who lives in the house at 1923 Kearney Street was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation but was expected to be released quickly, according to DC fire department spokesman Pete Piringer. The man's parents were also home when the fire started at 3 p.m. and weren't injured.

One firefighter suffered burns to his ears; the other was treated for burns on a forearm.

A smoke alarm alerted the residents, Piringer said. He said the cause of the fire is under investigation but was possibly electrical in nature. The fire took about 15 to 20 minutes to be put out, and there was significant damage to the house.

About 75 firefighters were on the scene. The Red Cross also arrived to help the displaced family.
