
WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- DC police officers escaped injury after being shot at in northeast early Monday morning.
Police tell 9NEWS NOW officers on patrol in the 5800 block of East Capitol Street witnessed occupants of one car fire multiple shots at another vehicle shortly before 3:00 a.m. When the suspects noticed the police officers they began to fire multiple shots at the the cruiser. Police officers did not return fire at the suspects and none of the officers were injured.
Police officials say a chased ensued that briefly went into Alexandria before the suspect vehicle jumped from Route 1 onto the Capital Beltway back towards DC. Officials say the chase came to an end when three suspects bailed out of the vehicle at 295 and Malcolm X Avenue in southeast. Three adult male suspects were taken into custody.
Officers are searching for a weapon they believe the suspects ditched during the chase on East Capitol Street near RFK stadium.
Police activity shut down the westbound lanes of East Capitol Street between Southern Avenue and 55th Street until just after 6 a.m.
