HYATTSVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -  A suspect who had barricaded himself in a residence in the Hyattsville area is in custody, after a several hour stand-off involving Prince Georges county police and members of the U.S. Marshals service.

Members of the Marshals Service went to the address, in the 7200 block of Annapoilis Road, to serve a warrant at about 10:00 am Wednesday. Spokesman Dave Turner tells 9 News Now that the subject was wanted for failure to appear in D.C. Superior court on a charge of cocaine distribution, and also faced weapons charges in Prince Georges county.

When the Marshalls arrived to serve the warrant, the subject barricaded himself in an upstairs bedroom, and the Prince George's county police SWAT team was requested to the scene for a barricade situation. Turner says the Marshalls alerted a nearby school that they should be put on lockdown, and assited some residents in evacuating their nearby homes.

Lynn McCauley, spokesman for the Prince George's county school system says two nearby schools -- Woodridge Elementary and Glenridge Elementary were briefly put on lockdown, and students were kept inside for their normal recess hour.

After waiting for the subject to give up for a few hours, Turner says tear gas cannisters were deployed and the subject surrendered.
