BROOKEVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- Rescue crews in Montgomery County had to free a woman from a vehicle stranded in high water in Brookeville.

Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham says the woman was driving in the 1800 block of Brighton Dam Road around 5:49 Wednesday morning when she approached an area in the roadway where rain had collected. Graham says signs were posted warning of the road's tendency to flood, however the driver proceeded into the deep water. When the vehicle became stuck in the high water the woman called 911, reporting the water level was up to the seats inside the vehicle.

Rescuers were able to remove the woman from her vehicle just before 6:30 a.m.

A second vehicle was also in the high water, however Graham says that vehicle and its driver was never in danger.
