
WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- DC Police say an officer shot and killed a man Saturday morning in the 4100 block of 8th Street in Northwest Washington.
Officers responded to the 700 block of Randolph Street, NW, at about 10:15 a.m. to investigate a report that three to five males were tampering with an automobile, police said. The suspects fled on foot.
Police reported that one of the men produced a handgun while on 8th Street, and an officer fired his service weapon, striking the suspect. According to police, the suspect dropped his gun, and continued running to the 800 block of Upshur Street, NW, where he was apprehended. He then collapsed, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other males were arrested and charged with tampering with auto.
The 33-year-old officer, a 10-year veteran assigned to the Fourth District, was not injured. He was placed on routine administrative paid leave.
