Police say Shumaker, who fled the scene on foot but was found about two-and-a-half hours later in a wooded area along Route 464, was first transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. Once released from the hospital, he was arrested and transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center's Central Booking Unit for processing.

Shumaker was charged with driving under the influence as well as numerous traffic charges that include failure to remain at the scene of a personal injury collision, driving without a license, fleeing on foot, failure to control speed, speed greater than reasonable, and reckless and negligent driving.
