WEST SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA) -- Police roped off West Springfield High School with police tape and even evacuated students at the elementary school.
Police say around 8:33 a.m., they were called to West Springfield Elementary School. A rock had been thrown through the window, and it included a threat made at the high school.
Police then spotted a suspicious looking package on the elementary school's roof. As a precaution, students at both schools were evacuated.
While students at the high school evacuated at 9:30 a.m., it took until noon to shut down the school and get students home.
Elementary schoolers returned to their classrooms after police determined the package was not a threat.
Police and the school district says the high school is so large, they had to close the school so police could take their time investigating. Bomb sniffing dogs were brought in, and the high school was roped off.
Police found nothing inside either school. They are still searching for the person who made the threat.
High schoolers were allowed inside their classrooms later in the day to get their belongings.
Fairfax Police are investigating the report of a bomb threat at West Springfield High School.
