WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- More than 150 security guards from the firm that folded last week--leaving schools unprotected--were rehired this weekend and back on the job when classes resumed today.
Two new firms have taken over. Securitas and US Security Associates deployed the top guards from Hawk One Security which went bankrupt on Thursday, pulling 300 guards out of the buildings.
Until the transition is complete, DC Police, DC Special Police Officers, and School Security staff will man the buildings.
School officials say all after school programs and athletic events will be fully staff with security personnel. Anacostia High School had to call in military reservists to work security at its Friday night football game.
