MARLTON, Md. (WUSA) -- It's a lot smaller leak than the broken 72-inch water line that flooded Dundalk, Maryland on Friday but a damaged three-inch pipe left its mark on Westview Drive in Marlton.
Danielle Davis was awakened Sunday morning by firefighters telling her to move the cars out of her driveway. The water rolling down the street was undermining the soil beneath the driveway and had left a sinkhole in the front yard.
Actually it is more like a sink trench, covering the length of the property where it meets the street. Part of the street also washed away.
A WSSC supervisor first responded to the neighborhood shortly after neighbors called around 5:30 AM. Crews weren't available until after 9:00 AM to shut off the water and begin repairs. WSSC spokeswoman Kira Lewis says crews are on duty around the clock, but the problem in Marlton didn't take priority over some other calls.
Neighbors say a dump truck with fill dirt used to repair the roadway began sinking into the asphalt. A tow truck called to remove the vehicle also became struck. Another tow truck came to the scene to assist.
WSSC says the residents can file a claim for the damage to their lawn.
