DUNKIRK, Md. (AP) -- Calvert County authorities say a person has died in a crash involving a sheriff's deputy in the town of Dunkirk.

Lt. Col. Thomas Hejl says Deputy Wayne Wells was responding to a call on another incident Friday morning when he struck a vehicle that had crossed the road in front of him. Hejl says Wells' cruiser overturned and the other vehicle caught fire.

Wells was trapped in his car for some time, but crews eventually rescued him and transported him to a hospital.

Hejl says the person in the other vehicle died at the scene. That person has not been identified.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Route 4 and Apple Way.
