
PRINCE GEORGES, Md. (WUSA) - Prince George's County Police report that a man injured in a shooting over two decades ago has now died of his injuries. Police tell 9 News Now that the man who was convicted in the case served his time and has already been released.
Prince George's Police say their department was recently notified by the Medical Examiner's office that a victim of a shooting, which occurred in the 3000 block of Brightseat Road in 1987, had died as a direct result of those injuries.
On November 9, 1987, Bernie Leroy Wilder Jr., of the 4900 block of Heath Street, Capital Heights, shot and wounded Ronald Llewelyn Doiley, of the 200 block of East Mill Avenue, Seat Pleasant, Maryland.
As a result of this shooting, Doiley became a paraplegic confined to a wheelchair and eventually had both of his legs amputated.
This past March 4, after continuous medical complications, Doiley, who was 55 years old, succumbed to his injuries. It was deemed by the Medical Examiner that his death was a direct result of complications stemming from this shooting.
Bernie Leroy Wilder Jr., who is currently 39 years old, was charged, and convicted and served time due to a guilty plea in 1987 for shooting Ronald Doiley.
