SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA) - One student was taken to Childrens Hospital and another was charged with assault, after an incident at a school bus stop in Suitland Tuesday afternoon. Officials say one boy pushed another boy, and that boy wound up under the rear wheel of a school bus.
John White, spokesman for Prince George's county schools tells 9 NEWS NOW that the two boys involved in the incident were both students at William Beanes Elementary school in Suitland. White says the incident occurred at a bus stop, as the students were being taken home after school.
All the details of what led up to the incident are not yet known. Prince George's county police spokesman Officer Henry Tippett says it was first reported at about 2:25 p.m. and after officers responded and looked into it, a 10 year old boy was charged with first-degree and second-degree assault.
Mark Brady, spokesman for the fire department, says the victim was an 11 year old boy, who was transported to the hospital with a leg injury, considered non-life-threatening.
White says the injured student's parents were notified and are at Childrens Hospital with their son.
