MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA) - The mother of 13-year-old Alexis Glover appeared in Prince William county court on Friday, formally charged with murder in the girl's death. Alfreedia Leona Glover appeared in court for arraignment, after being indicted by a grand jury earlier in the week.
Glover, 44, the girl's adoptive mother, was determined to be without funds for an attorney, and so a court-appointed attorney was assigned to defend her, and the judge continued the arraignment until next Friday, March 13, at 9am.
Glover remains in custody and is being held without bond, at least until the court hearing. She is charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, felony child abuse and filing a false police report.
Police believe that Alexis was already dead when her mother reported her missing from Manassas on January 7. After an exhaustive search by police, and numerous appeals to the public for information in the case, the girl's body was then found in a shallow creek in Woodbridge two days later. An autopsy performed by the medical examiner determined that Alexis died of drowning and exposure to cold.
