WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- "We are extremely disappointed with the traffic plan." Those are the words of Washington Hospital Center President James Caldas. Caldas, as chairman of the District of Columbia Hospital Association, is concerned that essential hospital employees won't be able to get to city hospitals on January 20th.

Of particular concern are the workers who live in Virginia. Caldas wants to see an exemption to allow hospital employees to us closed roadways with taxis, limousines, buses and emergency vehicles.

Virginia State Police said on Thursday that their position has not changed since Wednesday's announcement of the traffic plan. Corinne Geller tells 9NEWS NOW, "We're aware of their concerns and we're sympathetic. Unfortunately it comes down to a traffic management issue."

Geller says it will be too difficult to check private vehicles for authorization to be on the closed roadways.

Caldas says of particular concern is if there were to be a catastrophic event. To handle the surge staff would be called in from home.
