WASHINGTON DC (WUSA) -- Hundreds of boaters anchor on the Potomac River to watch Washington D.C.'s fireworks show every year. It's a tradition that many are not willing to miss, despite climbing gas prices.
At the Occaquon Marina in Woodbridge, VA and the James River Marina in D.C. the price for regular is $4.49. The Fort Washington Marina charges $5.09 a gallon.
That's about 20 percent more than last year. A $500 bill to fill up the boat is common.
It can cost some $4000 for a large boat coming from the Chesapeake Bay.
Carlton Phillips, owner of Prince William Marina (where gas is $4.45 a gallon, $4.20 for their slip holders) says boat owners know it costs money to ride and they're ready for the increase.
Several owners heading from Prince William Marina up to D.C. to watch the fireworks say they saved for this special day, it's so important to them.
One describes watching the fireworks from a boat, "amazing."
