BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Monday, Prince George's County police passed out safety flyers at a gas station in Bowie following recent thefts from cars.
Police say suspects targeted two cars at the Safeway gas station on September 6, 2013. The suspects targeted unlocked vehicles while their drivers were distracted at the pump, police tell us.
According to police, the number of thefts from cars is down nearly 13% this year, but they want to further reduce that number by educating drivers about some steps they can take to prevent such thefts.
Police are urging drivers to always lock their cars even if they are standing nearby, remove valuables from their cars or lock them in their trunks as well as always paing attention to their surroundings.
