WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A long barricade situation on Capitol Hill has finally ended on Wednesday morning.
Metropolitan Police were on the scene of the barricade in the 1300 block of E. Capitol Street SE since late Tuesday night, when a man slammed his door on officers attempting to serve him a bench warrant. According to police, the suspect's girlfriend was able to escape the residence soon after the barricade began.
The man was believed to be armed and alone inside the home, and negotiators as well as a SWAT team responded to the scene, say police. Police froze a perimeter around the home.
The suspect is now in custody after surrendering peacefully to police at approximately 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Streets are reopening now, according to police.
Police say that the warrant was for a misdemeanor offense.
