WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA9) -- A 31-year-old man was shot and killed while walking home from the Deanwood Metro Station Thursday night, and D.C. police say they have no suspects and no motive.

Akinwol Olu Williams was walking home from work when he was shot just a few feet away from his front door on 44th Street in Northeast Washington.  Williams had just graduated from Catholic University in December with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.

Several of Williams' friends told WUSA9 that he rarely walked alone night due to the high crime rate in his neighborhood.

"If he did have to walk alone, he would always stay on the phone with someone because he didn't trust this neighborhood," said Jams Anderson, a friend and neighbor.  "He got so comfortable with the neighborhood that he dropped his guard."

Anderson believes Williams was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, but police say they are still investigating the motive.
