ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- It's been a week and a half since a cab driver allegedly shot and nearly killed Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy.
A big fundraiser to help the officer and his family is set for Sunday afternoon.
Donations have been pouring in ahead of the big event. People have been dropping off items at the Alexandria Police Association Hall.
Captain Shahram Fard described, "there's memorabilia, electronics, clothing. There are a lot of police officers and the community pitching in. I know he'd do it for us so we do it for him."
The City of Alexandria has stepped up in support of Officer Laboy and his family. A large turnout is expected Sunday afternoon but it seems everyday more residents and businesses are chipping in.
Fard added: "I'm touched. I know our community cares for us but the outpouring doesn't stop."
Port City Brewing Company is donating 10% of all Saturday sales, which is their busiest day of the week.
Bill Butcher is the company's founder.
"We consider him one of our own as an Alexandria Police officer. The police department is up the street. A lot of officers are buying our beer and we consider them our friends. We know how to draw a crowd, and educate them. If there's a way to help his family we want to do that," Butcher said.
Kristin Alberse added, "anything we can do - not knowing the family. this is the one little contribution we can make."
The auction event is being held at Old Town's Virtue Feed and Grain restaurant from 3-6p. You can continue to donate to the Alexandria Police Association on behalf of the Laboy family.
Anyone wishing to help the Laboy family can drop off a donation at the Alexandria Police Department, 3600 Wheeler Avenue or send a donation to:
