WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The Super Bowl of dog shows is underway in New York City.
The 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show began Monday. More than 2,700 dogs representing 187 breeds and varieties were vying for the title best in show.
This year two new breeds are in the running: the Russell Terriers and Treeing Walker Coonhounds.
Two dogs from D.C. are in the running for best in Show: "Jewel" the Foxhound and "Honor" the Bichon both made the cut. The dogs are owned by Georgetown resident Elle Charles.
Tuesday night, the finalists head to Madison Square Garden and prime time when the Best in Show honor will be awarded.
