CECIL COUNTY, Md. (WUSA) - Five townhomes went up in flames Thursday morning displacing six occupants, Deputy State Fire Marshals said.
At about 3:38 a.m. officials were notified of the three-alarm blaze in the 400 block of Willow Drive in Elkton, Md. It took 50 firefighters from various fire departments nearly 90 minutes to get the fire under control.
Investigators determined that the fire originated from a vacant townhome. Occupants notified authorities of the fire when the smoke alarms went off and detected smoke odor.
The Red Cross is assisting the two adults and four children that were displaced. The total damage of the five townhomes is estimated to be $300,000 dollars. The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
