WASHINGTON (WUSA/AP) - A Massachusetts contractor will repair the earthquake damage to the Washington Monument.

During a press conference on Wednesday morning, the National Park Service said Perini Management Services, Inc. of Framingham, Mass., was selected for the project, which will cost $15 million. A $ 9.5 million contract was awarded to Perini Management Services, the primary contractor for the Reagan Building.

Robert Band of Perini called the project "an economic plus" that will employ 40 people.

Scaffolding will be placed around the monument. The scaffolding will go up in two months. It takes roughly four months to complete the scaffolding phase.

The monument has been closed to the public since the earthquake in August 2011 left several large cracks. The monument could be closed until 2014.
