DC Police: Officer Shot Dog After It Charged

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- D.C. police officials confirm that an officer shot a dog, believed to be a pit bull, after responding to an animal complaint just after 7 a.m. Thursday in the 1900 block of  17th St. SE.

According to police the officer received a complaint about a loose pit bull running from yard to yard. The officer got the the scene and reportedly saw the dog charging toward a juvenile.

According to police, the police officer then fired her weapon, injuring the dog.

Police say the dog is still alive and is now in the custody of animal control.
