WASHINGTIN (WUSA) -- Chevy Volt sales hit a record high in August. 

General Motors reports sales for the hybrid plug-in topped 2,500 last month. It marks a 35 percent increase over July sales and more than a 700 percent jump from a year ago.

Industry experts say dealership offers and incentives have helped to move the cars.
