GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA) -- Montgomery County Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a store in the Flower Hill area of Gaithersburg last month.
Police say the attempted robbery happened on Jan. 29, at approximately 10:35 a.m. at Dollar Deal Plus at 18238 Flower Hill Road. Offcers learned that the suspect entered the store when it was opening, and walked through it before going up to the clerk at the register. He told the clerk he had a gun and told the clerk to open the register.
The clerk wasn't able to get the register open so the man grabbed the clerk's personal property and left the store.
The clerk followed the suspect and was then assaulted. The clerk suffered minor injuries.
The suspect was last seen headed towards Washington Grove Road.
The clerk's personal property was recovered at the scene, according to police.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5'9" to 6' tall, weighing approximately 130 to 140 pounds with long black hair and a mustache and beard. Police say he was last seen wearing a red plaid bandana on his head, a gray sweatshirt, dark blue pajama style pants with small white designs, and sunglasses.
