RIVERDALE, Md. (WUSA) -- A Prince George's County Public Schools official says that a Parksdale High School senior was shot and killed outside a Riverdale home Wednesday night.

Briant Coleman with PGCPS said they are not releasing the student's name. He told us that the school has counselors on hand for staff and students if needed.

Corporal Mike Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Police Department, said officers were called to the 6400 block of 61st Place around 10:16 Wednesday night to investigate a report of a shooting. Once police arrived on scene they found a man inside a home suffering from gun shot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

According to Cpl. Rodriguez, homicide detectives believe the man was sitting on his front porch when he was approached by two masked suspects in dark clothing. At least one of the men shot the victim in front of the home. Rodriguez says the man was able to make it back inside the home as the suspects fled the scene.
