ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- On Monday, police painted a picture of the man accused of three home invasions and a sexual assault in Maryland as a repeat offender who they are glad to have off the streets.

Kevin Darnell Ray was arrested in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on Saturday and faces charges for two home invasion robberies this past week in Wheaton and Bethesda (on Jan. 10 and Jan. 11). Police also say that in the Bethesda home invasion, he was joined by another suspect but that second suspect was not involved in the sexual assault of a housekeeper. Authorities are still trying to track down that second suspect who rode with Ray on the Metro to Bethesda and then committed the crime, according to police.

Ray is also being charged for Friday's violent Temple Hills Home invasion and sexual assault, according to Prince George's County Police Spokesperson Julie Parker. In the Temple Hills incident, he allegedly tied up six people and sexually assaulted them.

A Maryland arrest warrant for Ray includes charges of robbery, first degree sex assault, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony, and first degree assault.

On Jan. 10, 4th District officers responded to a home in the 2900 block of McMahon Road.  According to the preliminary investigation, the victim had just entered the garage of her home when the suspect approached her holding a handgun.  The suspect threatened the victim and demanded her money.  The suspect then demanded the victim's car keys, debit card, and pin number.  The suspect left in the victim's car, which was recovered nearby a bit later.  The victim was not injured.

Then on Jan. 11, at approximately 7:46 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to a reported robbery in the 9200 block of Bardon Road.

According to investigators, a housekeeper had encountered the suspect at the front door of the home.  The suspect produced a handgun and forced his way inside of the home.  The homeowner as well as her teenage son were inside.

The three occupants of the home were tied up and the housekeeper was sexually assaulted.  The suspect and another man then stole a bank debit card, took the housekeeper's vehicle keys, and left in the housekeeper's vehicle.  The housekeeper was transported to the hospital where she was treated and released and the other two victims were not injured.  The victim's stolen credit card was used at several locations in the metropolitan area.

Detectives obtained a photo of the suspect after he used one of the victim's credit cards.  They then released that photo to the public.

Police say they received a number of tips and information that led to the identification of Ray as the suspect.  Detectives then learned that Ray could have been in the area of Currituck County, North Carolina. On Monday, police say they tracked him down and took him into custody at a Walmart. They say there was a struggle while trying to arrest him.

At a news conference on Monday, police said that Ray is a repeat offender. He was in prison for 18 years on a manslaughter charge. He was also listed on the Maryland sexual offender registry for a 2005 third degree sexual offense.

Kevin Darnell Ray is being held without bond in Maryland and will have a court hearing on Tuesday in Rockville.
