BETHESDA, Md., (WUSA) -- Parents who have bike buggies to take their child for a spin should stop using them immediately.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled about 44,000 of the Chariot bicycle trailers and 70,000 of its bike trailer conversion kits.

The trailer's hitch compartment poses a injury hazard to children because it can break causing it to detach from the bike.

The trailers, priced from $200 to $925, sold nationwide at specialty bike stores and online from December 2005 through August 2010.

The conversion kits, priced from $40 to $70, were sold from October 2002 through August 2011.

Chariot Carriers is offering free repair kits for customers to install.

Consumers can contact the company at 800-262-8651 between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or go to the firm's website at www.chariotcarriers.com
