The funeral procession for former President Ronald Reagan will travel through Morningside, Maryland; a town which has seen a lot of history pass by. The official route from Andrews Air Force Base to Washington has been announced. The funeral procession will travel Suitland Road to the Suitland Parkway. The route goes through Morningside, Maryland. The town of 12-hundred has seen a lot of history pass by. Chuck Kiker knows where he will be Wednesday. The former vice mayor of Morningside will be out on Suitland Road paying his respects to Ronald Reagan. "I can tell my grandkids everything I see here," Kiker said. Morningside's Mayor Irving Robinson and the eight member town police department received official word Tuesday of what they already expected that the funeral procession of the 40th president will leave nearby Andrews Air Force Base and head through town on its way to Washington. When President John F. Kennedy's body left Andrews, Chuck Kiker then in the Navy, was on base. And he stood with many others on Suitland Road when the body of President Lyndon Johnson passed by. But He says the largest crowd gathered in Morningside was for the return of the Iranian hostages in the early days of Ronald Reagan's first term. "There were people on both sides...every body was waving yellow ribbons," he said. Kiker said he felt a lot of pride at the time. And the pride is expected to show again Wednesday in Morningside but it will be over in a moment as the motorcade climbs onto the Suitland Parkway for Ronald Reagan's final trip to Washington. The funeral procession will travel in the District on the Southeast-Southwest Freeway to the 14th Street Bridge. From there it will take the George Washington Parkway to the in-bound Memorial Bridge and onto Constitution Avenue. Click related video for Dave Statter's full report. Written by Dave Statter
