GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA) -- A Gaithersburg cake designer is giving away what was suppose to be a wedding cake.
For reasons we can't disclose, a couple who was suppose to tie the knot tomorrow called it off -- for irreconcilable differences.
The couple's misfortune can now be someone else's cause for celebration.
The cake needs a home; for now, it sits in Clara Golds refrigerator. She and her team worked through the night to bake the 5 tier cake.
Gold says, "We finished baking around 4 this morning, and we got the call at 9 a.m."
She's had weddings called off before but none quite this late. Now Clara is donating it to someone deserving. A good dea, considering the cake costs $1,500.
The cake doesn't look like much but Clara says you need to just think of the possibilities.
"It's a white canvas; it has to be round," she explains. "(It's) not decorated yet and you can put all the frills."
By the way, it is a lemon pound cake, and it can last up to a week. Ifyou think you've got a celebration deserving of this beautiful cake you can you can email Gold here.
