FALLS CHURCH, Va. (WUSA9) -- A resident was able to escape a fire at a townhouse in Falls Church on Monday but suffered non life-threatening injuries, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department officials.
The person was taken to a hospital for treatment and ultimately displaced from his or her home, say officials, after a fire at approximately 5:10 p.m. in the 3000 block of Meeting Street.
Heavy smoke poured from the basement and first floor of the three-story end unit townhouse, say fire officials. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes, then conducted extensive overhaul and salvage operations in the basement, say officials.
Officials say the Red Cross is helping the resident.
The fire left approximately $200,000 worth of damage to the home, say officials.
The fire remains under investigation.
