BRENTSVILLE, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 17-year-old Osbourn Park High School student died at the scene of a single-vehicle crash into a tree on Thursday, say Prince William County Police. 

The crash happened in the 10600 block of Lake Jackson Drive at approximately 11:07, police say. 

Police say that Michael Murphy Schmelzinger was driving a 2008 Ford Mustang southbound on Lake Jackson Drive when it left the road and struck a tree.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, say police. 

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.
