STERLING, Va. (WUSA) - Eleven mallard ducklings hatched last week in the courtyard at Sterling Elementary School.

The courtyard had been renovated and maintained by the student "Green Team" for the past several years. A small pond was added, which may have prompted the mama mallard to choose this safe and friendly environment as a place to nest and to care for her family.
