FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) - Fairfax County officials there were no deaths reported from fires last year.
The county says it is the first time in the fire department's 62-year-history that is has gone a year without a fire death.
Officials say fire and safety education, fire inspections and quick responses to blazes contributed to the record-breaking year.
The fire department says Fairfax County has more 1 million residents and has averaged more than seven fire deaths annually from 2000 to 2010.
