Virginia named most patriotic state in America

VIRGINIA (WVEC) -- Virginia takes the cake when it comes to showing American pride.

According to WalletHub, comparing military engagement and civic engagement Virginia scored a total of 70.55 points in patriotism.

Virginia received the most points out of every other state.

Military engagement was measured by the average number of military enlistees, veterans, active-duty military personnel, and the number of civilians in the military reserves.

Virginia was ranked 5th for military engagement. The most points that could be acquired for military engagement was 50.

The civic engagement was determined by the number of voters in the 2016 presidential election and 2016 primary elections, volunteer rate, volunteer hours, AmeriCorps volunteers, Peace Corps volunteers, trial and grand-jury participation, frequency of Google searches for American flags, and civics education requirements.

In total, states could gain a maximum of 50 points from the civic engagement category. Virginia was ranked 10th out of all 50 states.

Adding both scores together Virginia came out on top.

Alaska was second in patriotism, while North Carolina takes 10th place.

The analysis also found Virginia was ranked third for most veterans per capita. WalletHub also determined red states, Republican majority states, are more patriotic than blue states.

The least patriotic state, New Jersey.
