Parts of Georgia Ave. closed after fatal crash

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD. (WUSA9) - Parts of Georgia Avenue are closed through the morning commute after a man died in a collision of two pickup trucks early Wednesday morning, Montgomery County Police said. 

Southbound Georgia Avenue at Aspen Hill Road and northbound Georgia at Verona Drive are closed. Drivers using this route are urged to use Connecticut Avenue and Layhill Road, but should expect delays.  

The two-car crash happened around 1:50 a.m. on Georgia Avenue between Aspen Road and Hewitt Avenue.

Police said a man was traveling northbound on Georgia Avenue in a Nissan Frontier when for reasons still under investigation, struck another 50-year-old Israel A. Vasquez Bonilla, who was attempting to turn left from westbound Hewitt Avenue onto southbound Georgia Avenue in a Toyota Tacoma.

Both male drivers were transported to Suburban Hospital where the driver of the Nissan one succumbed to his injuries. Bonilla has non-life-threatening injuries. 

The identity of the driver of the Nissan will be released once family has been notified.
