WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- WUSA9's Andrea Roane is emcee of this year's Knock Out Abuse Against Women event where Dr. Phil's wife Robin McGraw is the guest speaker.
The 21st Annual Knock Out Abuse Against Women fundraising gala will be held at The Ritz-Carlton in Washington, DC on Thursday night. In the past 20 years, the event has raised more than $6 million for local charities that support victims of domestic violence. Charities include Bethany House, Crossway Community, Safe Shores, The DC Volunteer Lawyers Project, Domestic Violence Legal Empowerment and Appeals Project (DV LEAP).
Guests at the event include Robin McGraw, Wolf Blitzer and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, as well as Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, who will accept the first ever Break the Silence award for forming a task force to combat sexual violence at colleges and universities. D.C. Mayor-Elect Muriel Bowser will also be there.
McGraw and Chmerkovskiy talked to us on Thursday ahead of the event.
McGraw has her own charitable foundation, When Georgia Smiled, which serves to improve the lives of women and children, especially those affected by domestic violence.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy, a popular professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars and this year's guest auctioneer for the event, will be auctioning off himself for a lunch date on November 14.
