Uncle Earl Twitter account launches amid DC scandal

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- You knew it was going to happen: someone has created a Twitter account for the code name of Jeffrey Thompson, accused of running a "shadow campaign" for Vincent Gray in 2010. The account appears to have been created on Monday.

D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray denies knowing about any funds.

Our Bruce Johnson asked Gray during an interview, "Thompson says you agreed with him and laid out a budget and you thanked him and called him 'Uncle Earl.; Is this true?"

Mayor Gray: "Those are lies, Bruce. The Uncle Earl part is the only part of that that's true and he asked me when he started raising money for my campaign, which I've acknowledged that, he said 'please refer to me as Uncle Earl because I don't want to be the recipient of retribution from the opponents' campaign, so don't call me by name, call me Uncle Earl.'"

The person who is running @UncleEarlDC is replying to questions, tagging council members and their campaigns, as well as tweeting out #tbt photos.

As you can see, someone is obviously having fun.
