The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers started house demolition and the cleanup of the property at 4825 Glenbrook Road N.W. The property is located within the Spring Valley Formerly Used Defense Site. During the World War I era, the property was part of the American University Experiment Station, where the government researched and tested chemical agents, equipment and munitions. During investigations years later "materials of concern" were found next to the house's foundation. Removing the house will allow engineers to thoroughly investigate the area and clean up and restore "the property to residential standards," say Army Corp of Engineers officials.
