WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - Two dozen dogs rescued from a South Carolina puppy mill arrived Wednesday evening at the Washington Animal Rescue League. WARL's transport van and two staffers had made the trip to a temporary animal shelter in Columbia, S.C. to pick up the dogs. They were among approximately 225 animals, including horses and fowl, rescued after suffering neglect and abuse at a Johnston, S.C. property. Arriving at WARL, the dogs are a parade of breeds, from tiny Maltese and terriers, as well as beagles, boxers and larger dogs. They included nursing mother dogs and their pups. All the dogs are being made comfortable, and after their medical and behavioral needs are addressed, they'll be made available for adoption.
