Pets saved, family displaced in Va. house fire

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA9) -- A family had to find a new place to stay after a fire at their home in Woodbridge on Sunday.

According to Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Firefighters, a fire broke out at the house at 1940 Pohick Creek Ct in Woodbridge at approximately 1:15 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters arrived to see smoke showing from the front door. They then located a small fire in the kitchen and the bulk of the fire in a storage room in the basement, say OWL VFD officials.

Fire & Rescue units from OWL VFD, Dale City VFD , PWC Department of Fire & Rescue, Quantico, and Fairfax County were able to get the fire under control in 15 minutes, say officials

Officials also say several pets were saved from the house, and no one was injured.

Red Cross was called in to assist the family, according to officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
