UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA) -- "My daughter would be very happy to know that the man who killed her is behind bars," Marlyn Evans tells 9NEWS NOW.
It took a Prince George's County jury less than an hour to convict 41 year old Fabian Shim of the murder of Reina Lynch. She was shot and killed while working overnight as a security guard at a FedEx facility in Beltsville.
"My daughter didn't stand a chance," Evans said. "She died in less than a minute." Her body was not discovered until employees showed up for work the next morning.
Surveillance cameras at the facility captured images of Shim's car arriving and leaving the scene. A witness called police later to say they could find a possible murder weapon in the car, and it was recovered.
Lynch and Shim have an eight year old daughter together. Her friends testified that Shim was angry that she went to court November 1 to request more child support. Seven days later he went to her security job overnight and shot her in the head and chest with a shotgun.
Lynch also leaves behind a five year old son from another relationship. Lynch's parents are now raising both children.
"We prayed daily that justice would be served, and today it was," Evans said.
Shim will be sentenced next month.
