WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) - Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of the summer travel season. Despite low gas prices, this is expected to be a relatively light Labor Day weekend for travelers.
Gasoline in the DC area is 21 cents cheaper that it was this time last year, but AAA Mid-Atlantic says Americans are still concerned about the affordability of travel. The number of people from throughout the region expected to travel at least 50 miles or more this weekend is slightly lower than last year.
But anyone who is flying over the Labor Day weekend is encouraged to pack their patience along with their clothes. Long lines are expected at airports across the country - continuing a summer-long pattern.
Many people won't be leaving the area this weekend, we can expect some visitors. Washington has been named as a top ten travel destination by the Travelocity Web site.
Empty nesters and other travelers say Labor Day is a time they can visit the area without having to deal with crowds of families with school-aged children.
