WASHINGT0N, DC (WUSA) -- He was trying to broker a peace agreement between two rival street gangs, but instead 29 year old Tayvon Glover died in a hail on bullets on Girard Street Thursday night.
Another man was also shot during the same incident but survived.
Friday, Glover's brother, a popular actor on "THE WIRE" television series returned to the neighborhood where his brother was killed to urge those who knew and loved him NOT to retaliate.
"I'm hurt that my brother was killed, but it's not going to do nothing for someone to go out and kill somebody else," Anwan Glover said. Mayor Adrian Fenty, Police Chief Cathy Lanier and members of the PeaceOholics joined Glover on Girard Street with calls for peace.
"This is a group effort," Lanier said. "we're not going to take anymore." There have been 7 murders in the District in the last 48 hours.
Three previous "all hands on deck" police initiatives have had some success at cracking down on crime, but neighborhood advocates say more needs to be done.
"We know who's doing this, reach out to them, talk to them, we can stop this," Ron Moten, founder of the PeaceOholics said. Glover's family is now planning his funeral.
As a survivor of 13 gunshot wounds himself, Glover vows to do his part.
"The guys who saved me from the street didn't abandon me, I?m not going to abandon the youth of this city because of what happened to my brother," Glover said. "I lived to preach the word," he added.
