NORTH POTOMAC, Md. (WUSA) - Keeping the pastures at the Potomac Horse Center green and healthy isn?t easy. But Caretaker Rick Terselic has come up with an environmental solution that's in plentiful supply at the center - horse manure.
The 90 horses who trample the pastures produce about 4500 pounds of manure daily. Terselic is composting most of it and returning it to the land as top soil.
"Instead of commercial and chemical fertilizer, this is organic," he tells 9NEWS NOW. "And it's the only way I've found to get long lasting results."
The Horse Center would like to expand the operation and become 100% self-sufficient.
The County Planning Board has already given the idea the okay, but the County Council still needs to give its approval.
